Between design and craft - to extract the essential from things. Perhaps that is the best way to summarize Christian Finke’s path. Growing up in northern Germany, his first work was in ceramics. An extended stay in Japan and the work at Young-Jae Lee, KWM, Essen, were formative. In the middle of the ‘90s in Berlin, Finke begins to focus on the intersection between design and art. He discovers light as a theme and designs and manufactures his first formally determined lights. The founding of the filumen design label follows in 1999: light becomes the central design element, making the material nature of objects visible. Since 2006, he has been running filumen in Potsdam as a manufacturer for better light.

Torsten Nein has been part the filumen team as a designer since 2009. First as a freelancer whilst studying product design, then later full-time. Besides developing lights, his responsibility is also the development filumen’s media image.

Hanna Litwin and Romin Heide have been designing furniture, lighting and accessories as BÜRO FAMOS since 2012. Their focus are durable products from high quality materials. The manufacturing processes employed often play a central role as well. The designs speak for themselves, are a pleasure to use, and are serious and charming at the same time. Together with filumen, they designed the light cast.
